1 NFL Head Coach Really Doesn’t Want To Be On “Hard Knocks”

HBO’s Hard Knocks series is must-watch television for a lot of football fans every summer, but for those within the NFL, it’s usually not something you want to be a part of. Take, for example, the comments from one NFL head coach.

Detroit Lions head coach Matt Patricia really, really does not want his team to be featured on the HBO show this summer. He’s going so far to say that another NFL head coach would be more entertaining on the show.

The Lions, who can’t say no to the show if HBO asks them to do it, are trying to get the Oakland Raiders the gig.

“I think Jon Gruden is an excellent choice for that show,” Patricia said, per Michael Rothstein of ESPN. “I think the Oakland Raiders and everything they’ve got going on right now would be fantastic viewing for everybody to watch.”

While that might be true, it’s easy to see that the Lions are not at all interested in taking part in the docuseries.

“Nobody wants to do it,” Detroit Lions GM Bob Quinn added. “Except Oakland.”

All 32 teams are eligible for HBO’s Hard Knocks, though teams can turn it down if they’ve done it within the last 10 years, made the playoffs within the last two years or have a new head coach.

This often results in a team at the bottom of the NFL’s standings getting featured on the show. We had the Browns last year and it looks like we could have the Lions or the Raiders this year. The Giants, Redskins and 49ers could also get picked, according to reports.
