Esperance Tennis Tournament to draw a crowd

Esperance Tennis Club will soon serve-up the 2019 Horizon Power Esperance March Tournament, an event expected to attract more than 150 players from across WA and inject $100,000 into the local economy.

Several local juniors will be aiming high as they compete against the state’s best players in the Silver Series Australian Rankings Point event.

Esperance Tennis Club Head coach Darren Foss led local junior players to a successful 2018 tournament season after winning The D’Arcy Slater Cup.

Benjamin Haclin and William and Stella Wildberger recently represented WA at The Foundation Cup in Kooyong, Melbourne and said they were looking forward to showcasing their skills amongst their home community in the tournament.

Thirteen-year-old William said competing in the Foundation Cup was an amazing experience for him, as a country player.

The March Tournament, which runs from March 1 until March 4, was named WA’s Australian Rankings tournament of the year in 2015.

To encourage local players of all ages and abilities to part in this exciting weekend of tennis, the Horizon Power Twilight (Social) Doubles Tournament will run on the evenings of Friday, March 1, and Saturday, March 2.

Held under the clubs international-standard lights, this event will be a Ladies and Men’s Doubles tournament that was a success last year.

Fantastic prize money is up for grabs and players in the March tournament AMT Main Draw are barred from entering, as it is specifically aimed at Social Doubles to encourage a more social atmosphere for both local and non local, social standard participants.

The Esperance Tennis Club Cafe will be managed by the talented Michelle Barrett from Neds Corner Harvest and team, with delicious gourmet meals on offer across the weekend for players and spectators.

Entries for the Australian Rankings event can be made at www.tennis.com.au/wa and close on Tuesday, February 19.

For more information on the Horizon Power Social Doubles entries, which close on March 1, contact Ann Welke 0407 381728 or Jill Wehr 0429 721330.

Esperance Tennis Club wish to extend thanks to the generous tournament sponsors – Horizon Power, Orrcon Steel, Farm & General and AFGRI Equipment.
