Nike and the Premier League have revealed their new ball for the 2019/20 season, which is exclusively for England’s top-flight.
The Nike Merlin’s eye-catching design is solely for the Premier League and it’s stand-out feature is a flash of hot pink – which becomes the centerpiece of the alternative ball that will be used during the winter months.
Launched to coincide with Nike’s 20th anniversary of their partnership with the Premier League, the ball is inspired by England’s urban landscapes and has been designed as a tribute to the pulsating tempo and passion of the Premier League, Nike General Manager of Global Equipment Kieran Ronan said.
“We wanted to design a ball that specifically illustrated the traits of Premier League football.
“A ball that felt hyper-technical and precise in nature but also inspired by this English culture of living and breathing Premier League football.”
The ball is built with just four panels, which Nike says provides a bigger sweet spot for more spectacular shots.”
The flashes of pink are designed to make the ball easier for fans and players to see, while Nike’s ‘Aerowtrac’ grooves ensure a consistent flight through the air.
‘Urban Grip’ technology gives the ball its grippy texture and takes inspiration from the scenery of England’s cities.
The ball is designed in a modular system, which makes the graphics and colours easier to change, so we could even see different versions of the ball emerge throughout the season.
