Men’s Tennis, Three Dutchmen Recognized by ITA | Athletics

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College men’s tennis team was honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association for its success in the classroom this season, with the Dutchmen earning the ITA All-Academic Team award and three individuals also earning ITA Scholar-Athlete recognition.

This season marks the first time in recent program history that the Dutchmen earned the ITA All-Academic Team award. The award is given to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade-point average of 3.20 or higher on a 4.00 scale, factoring in all varsity letter winners from the fall and spring seasons.

Individually, Union had three student-athletes named ITA Scholar-Athletes, recognized as varsity letter winners with a GPA of at least 3.50 on a 4.00 scale for the current academic year and at least two semesters at their present school. Recent graduate Zach Kaplan ’19, rising senior Justin Gold and rising sophomore Jack Andre represented the Dutchmen on the prestigious list, with all three players earning the honor for the first time in their careers. The three honorees are the most for the program since 2015.

The Dutchmen had a promising season in 2018-19, winning six matches with six losses against nationally ranked competition. The team also qualified for the Liberty League Tournament for the first time in program history despite fielding a team primarily made up of freshmen and sophomores.
