After spending 12 years as an assistant coach, this season marks Torres’ first at the helm of the Bluejays. Creighton enters the new campaign as the defending BIG EAST regular-season champions after recording an 11-4-3 overall record and 7-1-1 mark in league play.
All-BIG EAST Second Team goalkeeper Paul Kruse posted a 0.636 goals against average (10th nationally) in 2018 and tallied seven shutouts while allowing more than one goal in a single match only once and playing each minute in goal during his freshman season. The Bluejays return seven starters from a season ago while welcoming 11 newcomers.
Morrison Stadium recently received an upgrade to FieldTurf’s CORE playing surface, and Tuesday marked the men’s soccer team’s first appearance on the new surface.
Creighton starts its competition schedule on Saturday night in Peoria, Illinois for an exhibition match against Bradley. The Bluejays will also host Missouri State (Aug. 21) and UIC (Aug. 24) for exhibition matches.
The Bluejays’ regular season is slated to start on Aug. 30 with a road match against preseason No. 6 North Carolina.
Creighton’s annual Socctoberfest celebration marks the first regular season home match and will take place on Sept. 6 against defending national runner-up Akron. From Sept. 6-Oct. 1, the Bluejays will host a total of seven matches and play only one contest on the road.
